What does this cost me?
Nothing. The exemption exam and STEMFIT camp are free to you.
Should I take the exemption exam?
That depends on your pathway or major. If your major does not need MATH 1111 – College Algebra or above, then you may wish to take the course MATH 1001 – Quantitative Reasoning or STAT 1401 – Elementary Statistics.
What if my pathway is gated, such as nursing?
Passing the exemption exam gets you a K credit or grade. For pathways like nursing, the K credit translates to a grade of C during those calculations. Thus, you will have to take another course in that area to get a better grade. Be sure to check with an advisor about how your pathway will be affected by a K credit.
What happens if/when I transfer?
Georgia Highlands College cannot guarantee the transferability of K credits.
How will the camp and exemption exam work?
The camp and the exam will be held in D2L. The exam will require Respondus Lockdown Browser + Monitor, which means you will need a mic and camera. Both of those may be built into the computer.
The camp for MATH 1111 – College Algebra contains activities, notes, videos, and quizzes as refreshers of the concepts mentioned above. For MATH 1113 – Precalculus, the camp contains pre and post tests for modules with links to helpful YouTube videos.
The camp will last for approximately four to five days before requiring that you take the exemption exam. While you have about five days open to you to take the exam, you may take the exemption exam at any time during those five days. Please note that you only have one attempt and seventy minutes to complete the exam once it is started. You cannot leave the exam and return to it later.
Are notes allowed on the exemption exam?
No materials or sources are to be used on the exams, except those provided for the MATH 1113 – Precalculus exemption exam. You may use a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator.
What score is needed to pass the exemption exam?
You must earn a score of 70% or better to pass.
What happens if I do not pass the exemption exam?
You would register for the course like normal.
