Spring 2025 Orientation Sessions

Spring 2025 Orientations will begin with an Online Pre-Orientation followed by an in-person orientation.

Students with a fully online schedule may attend a virtual orientation or an on-campus orientation. Students with any class on-campus should attend an on-campus orientation.

How do I get started with my orientation?

  1. Pre-Orientation:

    • Pre-Orientation introduces you to GHC and what you should expect as a student.
    • Complete Pre-Orientation in your Check Admissions Status.
  2. Welcome Email:

    • The email will contain useful information to be successful at GHC. It will also include what to expect with course registration.
    • Check your student email inbox soon after signing up for the live, virtual orientation. Complete the tasks listed.
  3. Orientation Session (sign up and attendance is required):

    • GHC orientation takes place on-campus at every campus location and is an opportunity to become familiar with everything GHC has to offer and ensure a smooth start to your first semester. During orientation, you'll gain insights into your chosen major and degree, have the chance to interact with various student service departments, such as advising, financial aid, and the business office, and become acquainted with the campus facilities.
    • Sign up for an orientation through Check Admissions Status after completing the Pre-Orientation.
    • NOTE: Fully online students have an online orientation option (date listed in Check Admissions Status and above) but are also welcome to attend an on-campus orientation.
  4. Class Registration:

    • Students attending orientation on campus will register for classes at orientation with the help of an advisor.
    • Students attending orientation in person will be registered for all classes by an advisor prior to orientation. Advisors will use your responses on the pre-orientation questionnaire to register you for classes. Once your schedule is built by an advisor, you will receive an email to your GHC student email account with next steps.

How do I get started with my orientation?

  1. Complete Advising Questionnaire:

    • Before you register for classes, we need to know a little more about you! Your Advising Questionnaire helps us understand your academic goals, so we can set you up for success.
    • After you have been officially accepted into GHC, you will receive an email (to your GHC student email account) with a link to this form.
  2. Register for an Online Orientation Session (attendance is required):

    • GHC orientation takes place on-campus at every campus location and is an opportunity to become familiar with everything GHC has to offer and ensure a smooth start to your first semester. During orientation, you'll gain insights into your chosen major and degree, have the chance to interact with various student service departments, such as advising, financial aid, and the business office, and become acquainted with the campus facilities. The GHC online orientation is the option for only fully online students and allows students to become familiar with everything GHC has to offer and ensure a smooth start to your first semester, especially in the online world as a student. Students will hear from various student service departments, such as advising, financial aid, and the business office, and become more acquainted with GHC. Online orientations take place in Microsoft Teams.
    • Once we have that advising questionnaire from you (step one above), then you will be able to register for an orientation session. We will send you an email to let you know!
    • NOTE: Fully online students have an online orientation option (date listed in Check Admissions Status and above) but are also welcome to attend an on-campus orientation. There are online orientation options for fully online students (select that you will be a fully online student above to see those dates) but are also welcome to attend an on-campus orientation.
  3. Complete Pre-Orientation in D2L:

    • Before your scheduled Orientation, we recommend completing Pre-Orientation in D2L. These quick, self-paced modules will introduce you to everything GHC has to offer!
    • How to Complete Pre-Orientation:
      1. Log into your MyGHC Student Portal using your GHC student email login.
      2. Access D2L in the program icons in the top left.
      3. Access the "Student Orientation" course and follow the modules to complete.

      * All students who complete it before the first day of classes will have their name entered into a drawing twice for special prizes.

      * If you complete the module after the first day of classes but before the end of the add/drop period, your name will go into the drawing once.

  4. Class Registration:

    • Students attending orientation on campus will register for classes at orientation with the help of an advisor. Students attending an online orientation will be registered for classes by an advisor based on their answers in the advising questionnaire (step one above).
    • Students attending an on-campus orientation will learn how to register for classes at their scheduled orientation session. This allows students to become familiar with the registration process and feel comfortable registering themselves for every future semester. Once your schedule is built by an advisor, you will receive an email to your GHC student email account with the next steps

Dual Enrollment Orientation Sessions

Accepted High School students participating in Dual Enrollment may register for a specialized orientation session through the Orientation Sign Up links sent to their email, once they have been accepted into GHC. Please contact dualenroll@highlands.edu for more information regarding Dual Enrollment Orientation at GHC.
