Faculty Learning Community
In this FLC, we will focus our efforts on three High Impact Practices: Course-Based Research Experiences (CUREs), Service Learning & Community-Based Learning, and Writing-Intensive Courses. Additional HIPs will be considered based on applications.

Amount
- Each participant will receive $750 for attending and participating in the FLC sessions (approx 2 in-person meetings), completing a course redesign, providing artifacts regarding the new HIPs course, participating in the Best Practices in Teaching Symposium, and fulfilling all criteria.
Eligibility
- Full-time faculty who are under contract with GHC during the 2021-2022 academic year
- Ability to attend and participate fully in the FLC meetings, the symposium, and any additional meeting dates.
- Large group meeting – Sept 10th 9:00-12:00 Cartersville
- Small HIP group meetings – TBD by group; virtual
Criteria
- Participate in the HIPs Faculty Learning Community.
- Collaborate with FLC and HIPs Implementation Team members throughout the Fall and Spring semesters regarding the progress, teaching, and assessment of the HIP.
- Design (in Fall 2021) and implement (in Spring 2022) a High Impact Practice in at least one course.
- Submit written reflections throughout the Fall and Spring semesters about the newly implemented HIP. These reflections should include positive outcomes as well as areas of improvement or challenges regarding the process, teaching, and assessment implementation. Due throughout the semesters.
- Provide a written plan to document redesigned expectations (objectives, activities, assessments) for the Spring semester due by Dec 17, 2021.
- After completion of the Spring semester, provide a written review and reflection to document the actual plan and outcomes of the Spring semester due by May 31, 2022.
- Attend and participate in the Best Practices in Teaching Symposium in May 2022.
Selection and Application Process
- The selection committee will not consider late or incomplete applications for any reason.
- Selection is competitive. Selection is based on eligibility and answers to the application questions.
- The complete application must be submitted electronically. The application consists of general information, 3 questions that are specific to the potential project, general course identification questions, and an acknowledgment of the expectations.
- If accepted to the FLC, your commitment to participate must be received by September 6, 2021, at midnight. If the commitment is not received in this timeframe, your spot will be awarded to the next qualified applicant.
