Ethics Challenge: Maintaining Academic Integrity

As students begin their first steps into the world of academics and adulthood, demonstrating strong ethical standards to our students will, hopefully, guide them to make decisions based on fairness, honesty and trust.

Michelle Lockett, Assistant Vice President – Academic Resources and Retention, shares these thoughts on promoting a bond of ethical behavior between faculty and students:

“Academic Integrity stands as the cornerstone of the educational journey, a shared commitment that weaves through the tapestry of learning for both students and faculty in the collegiate realm. For students, it encapsulates the ethical responsibility to produce original work, attributing ideas to their rightful origins, and resisting the allure of shortcuts. It is a pledge to uphold the sanctity of knowledge, fostering a culture of trust and fairness.”

“Faculty members, as stewards of education, play a pivotal role in cultivating an environment where academic honesty flourishes. They guide, inspire, and lead by example, nurturing a community where intellectual curiosity thrives without compromise. Together, students and faculty coalesce to ensure that the pursuit of knowledge is not just a personal endeavor but a collective voyage anchored in integrity, laying the groundwork for a future generation of ethical scholars and leaders”.
