Charger Food Pantry Item Donations

Food insecurities are real concern among many students at GHC, more than we’d like to admit. Many of our own students are homeless, some go two and three days without food due to financial or home-life struggles.

The Hope Center for College, Community and Justice conducted a survey of nearly  86,000 students in which they found that 18% of respondents attending two-year colleges were affected by homelessness, along with 14% of students attending four-year colleges.” Link provided here

“A fall 2019 survey of nearly 167,000 students nationwide found that 39% of students at two-or four-year schools had experienced food insecurity in the last 30 days.” Link provided here

One of the resources that GHC offers is a food pantry on every campus where students can go to get basic essentials or a meal between classes; however, some of our students are ashamed to go into the pantry, but we’ve developed a system where these students can reach us, and we’ll pack a bag for them and leave at a discreet location for them to pick up. In just one week, over 20 students have used this new system.

But supplies for these pantries aren’t free. We need your help to keep our shelves stocked! If you have food sitting at home that isn’t expired, please consider donating it to the Charger Food Pantry. Or if you’re just feeling generous and would like to donate canned goods, cereal, chips, toiletries or other items we’re more than happy to take them.
