Covid Reminders

According to The World Health Organization, the XBB.1.5Covid variant was first detected in October. This variant is believed to make up around 40% of all U.S. cases, making it the current dominant variant. There is no evidence of the XBB.1.5 virus being a more severe strain, however, it is more easily transmissible. The Northeast has already began seeing an increase in in Covid cases over the past month.

 

What should Employees/ Students do if they have tested positive for Covid-19?

  • You should quarantine for 5 days from the time your symptoms first appeared and be fever free for 24 hours without use of fever reducing medications and seen improvement in other symptoms of Covid-19.
  • You should wear a mask for 5 days from the date of return.
  • Students and employees should report positive test results by contacting hr_covid-19@highlands.edu

What should Employees/Students do if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19?

  • You do not need to quarantine at home.
  • You should wear a mask around others for 10 days.
  • If possible, get tested on day 6.
  • If you develop symptoms, get tested and isolate yourself at home until test results are received, then proceed in accordance with the test results.

What should you do if a student reaches out to you to inform you of a positive Covid-19 result?

  • Inform them of the current guidelines.
  • Encourage them to self report to hr_covid-19@highlands.edu
  • Work with them on any assignments they’ve missed due to Covid.

GHC currently has contract tracing measures in place. Employees and students will be individually contacted by email regarding any possible on-campus exposures.
