Security Update for Serious Flaw in Windows (PrintNightmare)

Microsoft has released an out-of-band security update to address a serious vulnerability discovered in printing software in Windows. Updates for Windows are typically released on the second Tuesday of each month (Patch Tuesday) and out-of-band security updates are only released for vulnerabilities that are extremely serious and being actively exploited by malicious websites or cybercriminals.

GHC IT has already approved the necessary updates to be automatically applied to employee and classroom workstations by our software update systems. All GHC employees are encouraged to run Windows Updates on their personal computer(s) immediately. To do so:

  1. Select the Start (Windows) button from the bottom-left corner.
  2. Go to settings (gear icon).
  3. Select the Update & Security icon.
  4. Choose the Windows Update tab in the left sidebar (circular arrows)
  5. Click the Check for updates button.
