New Instructional Designer I

Please join us in welcoming Rachel Rupprecht to her new position as Instructional Designer I in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).

Rachel is a Midwesterner, having spent most of her life around the Great Lakes. She was born in Illinois, grew up in Wisconsin, and lived in Michigan and Indiana for most of the time since then. This past May she moved to Lithia Springs, where she lives with her husband Nate and one-year-old son in a big house in the woods.

She graduated from Taylor University with a BA in Philosophy and Spanish and received her MA in Philosophy from Notre Dame. Rachel is currently wrapping up a PhD in Philosophy from Notre Dame as well. Prior to joining the GHC team, she has most recently been a graduate student at Notre Dame, where she was a graduate associate in the Keneb Center for Teaching and Learning. She also filled in for a sabbatical as a visiting instructor at her alma mater.

Between college and grad school Rachel taught English as a Second Language at an international primary school in Kurdistan, Iraq and to Yemeni women in Detroit. While working in Detroit, she was also an in-house substitute teacher and helped coordinate an after-school program at a public charter school. Rachel likes learning languages and is “very slowly” working on some Arabic and Dutch. She also enjoys reading board books and making block towers with her one-year-old son, Simon.

Her experience teaching philosophy and world religions courses, as well as, adult education and in the K-8th grade environment, has cemented her conviction that becoming an excellent teacher requires the support of professionals dedicated to creating space for instruction and reflection on pedagogical best practices. Rachel cares deeply about active engagement, continual improvement, and student empowerment. She enjoys fostering collaborative, research-based learning environments for professional development to support instructors’ endeavors to facilitate meaningful learning experiences for GHC students.

Please give Rachel a warm welcome to her new position at GHC!
