Graduation 2019: 1 Week & Counting!

EMPLOYEE GRADUATES: Please email president@highlands.edu if you are a GHC employee who is graduating or if you have a family member who is graduating with Georgia Highlands’ Class of 2019.

PARKING will be free for GHC attendees at the 3rd Avenue Parking Deck just south of the Forum on W 1st/Tribune Street. Please see the attachment (Rome downtown parking) for additional parking options in Historic Downtown Rome.

RUN-OF-SHOW: Arrivals for faculty and graduates will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the processional will begin at 10:00 a.m. Please see the attachment for more details.

HONORARY FACULTY MARSHALS: As senior professors at Georgia Highlands College, Frank Minor and Billy Morris will serve as honorary faculty marshals for GHC’s 2019 commencement.

COMMENCEMENT SPEECH and welcome from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia will be delivered by Regent Sachin Shailendra.

DR. NANCY P. APPLEGATE, Professor of English, has been voted recipient of the Wesley C. Walraven Teaching Award for 2019. Please reference Dana Nichols’ email dated April 8 for details. (Congratulations, Nancy!)

DR. KRISTIE KEMPER, Professor of English, will serve as 2019 Mace Bearer to lead GHC’s commencement on Saturday, May 11. Please reference Lillian Robertson’s email dated April 2. (Congratulations, Kristie!)

MORNING REFRESHMENTS will be provided for faculty and staff at 9:00 a.m. in the upper level Berry room by GHC’s caterer Chad Welborn of Aladdin Food (attached Forum Arena & Meeting Rooms).

FACULTY ROBING will be Upper Level in the Berry & Shorter meeting rooms. Faculty should be assembled in regalia by 9:30 a.m. (attached Forum Arena & Meeting Rooms).

GRADUATES should report to the lower level Riverwalk Ballroom. Refreshments will be provided for students by the Georgia Highlands College Alumni Association.

STAFF VOLUNTEERS are needed to assist with various usher functions at the Forum River Center on Saturday, May 11th. To participate and be involved, please contact Lindsay Little at llittle@highlands.edu

COMMENCEMENT ATTENDANCE: Full-time faculty are required to attend the Saturday commencement event; absences should be reported to the academic dean. Though not required, part-time faculty are welcome to join the marching line of faculty in regalia; attendance should be reported to the academic dean for adequate seating. NURSES PINNING will be held Friday, May 10th, 6:00 p.m., at West Rome Baptist Church.
