HOLIDAY 2017: VINTAGE PHOTO – #1 ID & #2 Trivia

Welcome to another week of president’s festivities for Holiday 2017!

Following last week’s cookie tour by Don & Cathy Green, this week features vintage holiday photos from the GHC family, related trivia games, and continued submits for the sweater contest. Thursday of this week is the deadline for the 1st annual sweater contest.

Yesterday’s Vintage Photo #1 was submitted by TRAVICE OBAS, Professor of Communication at Cartersville.

The winner of vintage #1 trivia is LAUREN BURKHALTER, Third Party Coordinator in the Bursar’s Office. Lauren will have her choice of the following GHC items: a genuine ceramic coffee mug; a crystal-clear glass ornament; or an orange-strapped canvas bag.

Vintage Photo #2 (attached)

CLUE: This tyke was on the phone then… perhaps asking Santa for a pug puppy. Today she is often on the phone in her Floyd Campus office assisting students. As a member of one of GHC’s primary teams working to provide student access to higher education, that empty message board is surely a fond memory of childhood days! Who is she?

HOLIDAY SWEATER CONTEST

The deadline to submit pictures for the sweater contest is Thursday, December 7th, at 12:00 noon. Following are the five categories with the current number of entries recorded for each category.

  1. Best-Matched Couple / Team / Group (2)
  2. Cutest (2)
  3. Most Likely To Go Viral (0)
  4. Most Original (1)
  5. Most GHC Spirit (1)

SWEATER CONTEST RULES:

  • Limit one (1) photo per employee
  • Entry email must indicate the sweater category
  • Include employee name and GHC campus

Photos can be taken on campus or off. For the most favorable contest photo, choose a background of solid color and void of distractions. (Tip: Try to find a blank wall for your backdrop and then zoom to place emphasis on that snazzy garment you’re sporting!)

Photo entries should be emailed to  holiday2017@highlands.edu

A confirmation email will be sent for each entry from Tammy Nicholson. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please resubmit your sweater photo to holiday2017@highlands.edu  or contact Tammy directly at tnichols@highlands.edu

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT PHOTOS FOR THE HOLIDAY SWEATER CONTEST IS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7th, 12:00 noon. 

PRIZES:

The sweater entry receiving the most votes within each category will receive a $25 gift card for the GHC Bookstore. These gift cards can be used in-store and on-line at

The single sweater entry receiving the most overall votes across all categories will receive a $50 gift card for the GHC Bookstore.

TIMELINE OVERVIEW

  • 12/04: begin vintage photo trivia
  • 12/07: deadline to submit sweater photo, 12:00 noon
  • 12/08 – 12/12: electronic voting period for sweater photo contests
  • 12/13: winners of sweater contests announced

FAQs

Q: Can I resubmit my sweater photo if I have another I prefer?

A: Yes, please do! Simply resubmit to holiday2017@highlands.edu with the qualifying details (sweater category, name, and campus) and a clear request to replace the previous entry.

Q: Will there be an on-campus event this year?
A: No, there will not be an on-campus event as hosted the past few years. Rather, this year’s focus was placed on attempting to reach the most possible employees across all GHC locations. Regrettably both events proved too much to manage.

Q: Should we expect a similar online event again next year?
A: No, not necessarily. This year’s online event is simply an attempt to try something different. Do look to learn more about next year’s options in the weeks ahead.

Q: Why is the sweater deadline so early? 

A: The sweater deadline was timed to allow for digital uploads followed by a voting period (beginning December 8) with time to announce winners (December 13) and ship prizes (December 14) ahead of winter break.

Q: Can our office submit a group picture? 

A: Sure! Category #1 for best-matched couple has been expanded to include teams and groups.

Q: Can I submit a photo of my pet and me for the couple sweater category?

A: Yes… because who would not enjoy seeing this?

Q: Do vintage photos need to include employees?

A: Yes, the vintage photo option is intended to create a type of ‘family album’ of GHC employees. The photo can include others, but it should provide a glimpse of the employee’s memory. It has been suggested to create a slideshow of all the submitted vintage photos, and we are exploring these options.
