A bit about the eclipse on Aug 21…

  1. From our locations, we will experience a partial eclipse. John Spranza has arranged to have eclipse glasses available on all GHC campuses so keep an eye out for the Student Life tents. A partial eclipse is really cool but is not the same experience as totality. If possible, consider traveling to the path of totality to get the full effect. Check out the following for more details:

  1. Having said that, if you do travel to the path of totality expect crowds and traffic. Here’s a link to a Google map illustrating the path of totality and another that includes expected traffic volume one might expect on the big day:

  1. Probably the most direct route from here into the path of totality is north on I-75 into TN. The rest areas around mile marker 45 (on both the northbound and southbound sides) would work if the weather cooperates.

  1. The real show only lasts about two and a half minutes or less. If the sun happens to be behind a cloud during this brief window of opportunity then we missed it. As weather this time of year can be unpredictable at best, this will be a huge challenge.

  1. Please feel free to get in touch if you might have other questions.

Thanks,

Mark
