Job Summary/Basic Function:    Atlanta Metropolitan State College, a four-year degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications for a Purchasing Officer. Atlanta Metropolitan State College currently serves over 3200 commuting students on its beautifully landscaped campus which is located 10 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and 15 minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
 
This is a full-time, twelve-month, non-exempt position, which reports to the Controller. The Purchasing Officer position purchases goods and services for Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) through PeopleSoft Purchasing; e-Procurement and traditional purchase requisition. To be successful in this position, the Purchasing Officer must be knowledgeable of Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) and University System of Georgia (USG) purchasing policies and obtain/maintain required purchasing certifications. This position must be able to maintain positive relationships within Fiscal Affairs and work with all levels of AMSC personnel. The Purchasing Officer will maintain a contract repository and system of contract management, ensuring suppliers are using contracted rates and meeting commitments per agreement. The Purchasing Officer will have primary responsibility for maintaining the AMSC Supplier database. This position may assist with training AMSC personnel in state purchasing requirements and purchasing software, and will provide regular assistance and direction to AMSC personnel related to purchasing policies and procedures. This position will also perform as backup for official business travel coordination.   
Minimum Qualifications:    State of Georgia Certified Purchasing Associate Certification is required. 5 years experience as a Buyer or similar position and working knowledge of USG procurement systems, applications, processes, policies and procedures is also required.
 
The successful candidate must possess thorough knowledge of State of Georgia procurement regulations as evidenced by possession of Georgia Certified Purchasing Associate Certification (GCPA). Must have used large scale financial system software and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be able to read and interpret moderately complex purchasing contracts and agreements. Must possess an attention to detail that assures a high degree of accuracy at every stage of the purchasing process. Must represent the best interests of AMSC at all times and possess superior customer service skills. Must participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Must have the ability to interact with all levels of AMSC, USG and DOAS personnel and suppliers in a positive and effective manner.   
Preferred Qualifications:    A Bachelors Degree in a Business discipline is preferred.   
Work Hours    Monday – Friday
8:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.
Some evening and weekend work may be required.
