USG Official Spring Enrollment Announced

The headcount enrollment in the 29 institutions of the University System of Georgia in Spring 2017 is 302,765, representing an increase of 0.5 percent (1,468 students) over the Spring 2016 enrollment of 301,297.

  • Headcount enrollment grew 0.6 percent in research universities and 2.3 percent in comprehensive universities. However, enrollment declined 0.3 percent in state universities 1.7 percent at state colleges. Enrollment increased at 14 institutions and decreased at 15.
  • The largest growth in terms of number of students was at Georgia Institute of Technology, which had an increase of 1,715 students, mostly at the graduate level. The largest growth in terms of percent of students was at College of Coastal Georgia, which had an increase of 10.9 percent.
  • Beginning freshman enrollment decreased by 13.6 percent from Spring 2016 (6,466 students) to Spring 2017 (5,590 students). This is larger than the decline in beginning freshmen from Spring 2015 to Spring 2016 (4.9%).
  • Dual enrollment continues to increase notably. From Spring 2016 to Spring 2017, dual enrollment increased by 27.1 percent (2,246 students). Spring 2017 dual enrollment is slightly higher than this past fall’s dual enrollment (10,352) even though overall enrollment decreased by 18,786 students from fall to spring.
  • Undergraduate enrollment decreased slightly by 0.1 percent or 306 students. However, the enrollment of graduate and first professional students and residents grew by 5.3 percent or 2,272 students. Most of that increase occurred at Georgia Institute of Technology.

The good news is that out of eleven State Colleges, GHC is among the few institutions to experience an enrollment increase. State College enrollment increases above 1% for Spring 2017 included:

  • College of Coastal Georgia at 10.9% (added new residence hall and reduced admissions requirements)
  • Georgia Highlands College at 3.9%
  • Georgia Gwinnett College at 2.6%
  • Dalton State College at 2.6%

GHC has been very fortunate to experience eight semesters with enrollment increases. Our enrollment goals for 2017/18 is to continue a minimum of a 3% increase each semester.
