Rapid changes in technology presenting challenges for universities
Technology is changing so quickly that even Georgia Tech President Bud Peterson is having a hard time keeping up. That’s what Peterson, who will celebrate his fourth anniversary at Georgia Tech in 27 days, told the Rotary Club of Atlanta Monday. “I’m trying to keep up with the rate and pace of change in technology,” said Peterson, who envisioned that when he came that he would be able to catch up with all that was going on at Georgia Tech in his first few years. “Because of the rate of change, I think I’m losing ground.”

Georgia scientists have pinpointed pathways in the brain that trigger impulsive eating in insects. They hope that their findings, which link eating with pleasure, will have an impact in understanding neural pathways associated with impulsive eating in humans. A University of Georgia research team studied reward-driven eating behavior in fruit fly larvae and published their findings in the journal Cell Press, according to Medical News Today.

Graphene Antennas Would Enable Terabit Wireless Downloads
Researchers calculate the potential of using graphene for ultrafast wireless communications.
By David Talbot
Want to wirelessly upload hundreds of movies to a mobile device in a few seconds? Researchers at Georgia Tech have drawn up blueprints for a wireless antenna made from atom-thin sheets of carbon, or graphene, that could allow terabit-per-second transfer speeds at short ranges. “It’s a gigantic volume of bandwidth. Nowadays, if you try to copy everything from one computer to another wirelessly, it takes hours. If you have this, you can do everything in one second—boom,” says Ian Akyildiz, director of the broadband wireless networking laboratory at Georgia Tech.

“In 15 Years From Now Half of US Universities May Be in Bankruptcy.” Such was the quote of Clayton Christensen followed by, “… in the end I’m excited to see that happen. So pray for Harvard Business School if you wouldn’t mind.” Who else does Clayton pray for? Apple. Yup! Watch the 30-minute interview to hear why but summary notes below. Let me start by saying that Clayton is one of the most influential people on my thoughts about markets that led to both the concept behind my first startup and my main theses in investing. I have written about Deflationary Economics (one of my most read posts ever) & The Innovator’s Dilemma before. In a discussion I had with Fred Wilson at the Invesco LP meeting Fred said the same about the influence of Clayton.
