September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Know your risk factors, be able to identify symptoms, and get tips to reduce your risk.
Who Is Most At Risk?
- Men who are age 50 or older.
- Are African American. African American men are more likely to have prostate cancer than white or Hispanic men.
- Have BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations or Lynch syndrome.
- Have a family histories of prostate cancer.
Symptoms:
There are usually no symptoms in the early stages. Some men experience symptoms that include:
- Urinary problems
- Blood in the urine
- Painful or difficult erection
- Pain in lower back, pelvis or upper thighs
Reduce Your Risk
- Talk to your doctor at age 50 about the pros and cons of prostate cancer screening.
- Never smoke. If you do, quit.
- Know your family history.
- Maintain a healthy weight.
