CPOS: How will Course Program of Study Impact Students?

Over 50% of GHC students rely on federal financial aid for their college expenses.  Courses that do not apply towards a student’s officially declared program of study (pathway) will be ineligible for federal financial aid.  Those students, especially, will need to keep the following in mind:

  • The deadline to declare a program of student (pathway) is 2 weeks before the last day of add/drop for the earliest part of term in which the student is enrolled each semester. For example, a student with three full term classes and one 2nd session class will need to have the correct program of study on record two weeks before the last day of full term add/drop.  A flex start student with two 2nd session classes will need to have the correct program of study on record two weeks before the last day of 2nd session add/drop.
  • Program of study (pathway) changes submitted after the CPOS deadline will be effective the following semester. For example, a Petition to Change Pathway that is submitted by a student with full session classes on October 1 will be processed for the following Spring.  Their major will not change the for fall semester in which it was submitted.
  • Any courses not part of the program of study on record that the student does not want to pay for out of pocket must be dropped by the last day of add/drop for the earliest part of term in which the student is enrolled each semester.
  • Any course a student enrolls in, knowing they want it to substitute for another course, will need to have an approved substitution form on file no later than 3 weeks before for the earliest part of term in which the student is enrolled each semester.
  • These deadlines will be on the academic calendar starting Summer 2023.
