Open Records Procedural Update

As a member of the University System of Georgia and Georgia State Offices, Georgia Highlands College is subject to Code O.C.G. A. § 50-18-70, otherwise known as the Open Records Act. Under this code, All public records shall be open for personal inspection and copying, except those which by order of a court of this state or by law are specifically exempted from disclosure.

Effective immediately, the below procedural guideline will be followed.

Step 1) All requests for records must be in writing and sent to open.records@highlands.edu. This email account will be monitored by the Office of Registrar.
Step 2) Upon receipt, the request will be logged on the tracker for record keeping and an email will be sent to the requestor advising of receipt of the request. The email will provide an expected response time.
Step 3) Request will be further routed for the records as follows:
-Student records will be supported by the Registrar’s office, email:registrar@highlands.edu,
-Records requested for employment at GHC will be routed to Human Resources, email: humanresources@highlands.edu
Step 4) All responses once data is gathered will be routed back through the Office of Registrar to log the submission, and send the data to the requestor with one final review to make certain adherence to the Data Privacy Act specifically addressing Personal Identification not being released.
