Virtual Honors Night Award Submissions Needed

Dear Faculty & Staff,

The annual Honors Night Award Ceremony will be broadcast in video form in accordance to social distancing requirements and the current quarantine conditions.

Please submit your award details on the Form linked below, and attach a short 1-2 minute (1GB limit) video of yourself “presenting” the award to the recipient. Video script may include a brief description of the award, sharing details about the recipient (who they are, why they are being recognized, details of performance, etc.), and of course a congratulatory message.

We will compile all the videos into a single video with graphics, music, and other bells & whistles to be posted online and the link sent to all award recipients. The award certificates will be mailed to their students’ home addresses.

Coordinate with your Department Chair or Academic Dean as needed to confirm or vet the award as appropriate for your area.Please note that awards with multiple recipients will require multiple award form submissions and separate videos for each recipient.

Here are some best practices and tips from Jeff Brown for getting a really good recording:

  • Make sure the camera lens is clean.
  • Make sure the focus is set properly. (Focus should be set on you and not on a random object in the frame.)
  • Keep your phone steady and shake-free for a sharper image. Try to prop it up on something stationary rather than hand holding.
  • In composing, consider the overall composition and shoot tight enough so you are the subject. Minimize distracting objects in the background.
  • Do not shoot photo or video with a bright window or harsh light behind you. Ideally, you want the light in front or to the side of you.
  • Shoot the video in a horizontal (landscape) format.
  • Shoot in a 1920×1080 format if possible.

We are also soliciting nominations for the “Final Three” student awards – the GHC Leadership Award, GHC Spirit Award, and the Steve Burns Service Award. You may nominate students for these awards on this form (does not include any video submission), and the nominated students will receive a message for them to submit their part of the award application.
