Working Offsite With a Personal Device in Five Easy Steps

1. Ensure your device is BYOD compliant.

✔ My smartphone, tablet, or computer is up-to-date (meets the requirements below) and is capable of receiving future security updates.

  • Windows – Windows 10 operating system with the latest security updates released on February 11th, 2020.
  • Mac – macOS Mojave 10.14.6 or macOS Catalina 10.15.2 with the latest security updates released on January 28th, 2020.
  • iPhones/iPads – iOS 13 operating system with the latest Safari browser
  • Android – Android 8.0+ operating system with the latest Google Chrome browser

✔ My device is free of viruses, malicious software, and has a reasonable security configuration that includes a password or screen lock so that it can’t be easily used while left unattended.

2. Check your VPN access.

✔ I’ve set up GHC’s VPN software using the instructions provided online at https://www.highlands.edu/vpn/

3. Know how to access your office phone while away from your office.

✔ I’ve reviewed the information available on the Information Technology section of the Intranet (https://intranet.highlands.edu/information-technology/).

4. Know what kind of data you are authorized to handle on a personal device.

✔ I understand that I may NOT handle sensitive Personally Identifiable Information, such as Social Security Numbers or federal or state identification numbers using a personal device.

✔ I have read GHC’s Data Classification and Security policy online.

5. Sign up for GHC Notify

✔ I’ve signed up for GHC Notify for emergency alerts and I’ve ensured that my contact information is correct online at https://intranet.highlands.edu/ghcnotify
