Academic Integrity/Code of Conduct reporting reminder

Dear Faculty,

As we near the midterm point, allow me to remind you on the process on how to report suspected cases of academic misconduct and disciplinary violations.  Georgia Highlands College uses a student conduct management system called Maxient for the reporting and process flow of our student judicial policies. The reporting of violations of the Academic Integrity Policy and the Student Code of Conduct are both done through online reporting forms.

Both Misconduct Reporting Forms can be found in a number of locations on the Georgia Highlands website:

  1. Under Student Life, Student Conduct & Judicial Affairs link: https://sites.highlands.edu/student-life/judicial/
  2. Under Academic Affairs, Forms for Download link: https://sites.highlands.edu/academic-affairs/forms-for-download/
  3. GHC Intranet, General Information tab, Download Forms & Documents

Please do not use the old paper forms, use the Maxient electronic reporting forms for all cases.

Please familiarize yourself with the forms and policies, which can be found online here: https://www.highlands.edu/student-conduct-judicial-affairs/ . The judicial policies and procedures can also be found in the current Student Handbook, which can be found here – https://www.highlands.edu/documents/GHC_Handbook.pdf or in hard copy form at every campus.

If you have a suspected case of academic misconduct, be sure to submit a report form on every case. You may handle it yourself with the student by following the Informal Resolution Process, but the documentation on the report should be submitted regardless of whether the student accepts the penalty or objects. You are able to attach copies of any evidence to the reporting form.

Our policies prohibit a student from dropping a class in an effort to avoid the charge/penalty while the case is open, so timely notification by the report form is key. Please refer to the AIP-flowchart found on page 64 of the Student Handbook for the process.

In the case of behavioral issues or potentially criminal acts, anyone may submit a report form for a suspected violation of the Code of Conduct. That adjudication process can be seen on the COC-flowchart document found on page 62 of the Student Handbook.

Some behavioral cases can be handled prior to the judicial process by submitting a CARE Ticket on the student. CARE Ticket submission can be done on the intranet under the Forms link under the Faculty tab (we are working to convert the CARE ticket submission into the Maxient system, but it is not complete quite yet).

With any case, please feel free to contact me at jspranza@highlands.edu or the Student Life team member at the campus where the violation occurred if you have any questions: Clifton Puckett at Cartersville, cpuckett@highlands.edu; Melissa La Fleur at Douglasville & Paulding, mlefleur@highlands.edu ; and Megan Simmons at Marietta, msimmons@highlands.edu. Any of the Student Life team can assist you with the adjudication process under the Informal Resolution, and will be directly involved in any case that progresses to the Formal Resolution process.

I wish you good luck with your classes this semester!

Thanks,

John
