Ready for Summer? Hike Red Top this Friday!

Highlands “Unlikely” Hikers

Looking to promote being in nature and experiencing the joys of hiking while lightly challenging our bodies and reinforcing that hiking is an activity open to all levels of fitness. Monthly hikes will be slower paced with plenty of rest breaks and no one made to feel they can’t keep up.

May Hike:     Friday May 11th 1:30 pm

Redtop Mountain State Park Cartersville GA (note: $5 parking fee)

Meet at the old park office, 50 Lodge Road at 1:30 p.m.

We will start on the Sweet Gum trail on the right side of the lot when facing away from the old lodge. We will follow the Sweet Gum trail and branch off onto the White Tail trail (1 mile both ways), follow it to the end (take a moment to rest and enjoy this view) and back for those who want a shorter hike of about 1.25 miles. For those who want a longer hike, after the White tail trail we will continue on the Sweet Gum trial (3.5 miles) around the loop and over to the visitor center, break for restrooms and a snack and follow the trail back for a total of 4.5 miles.

Both trails are easy/moderate with exposed tree roots, rocks and some rolling ups and downs.

Join us to enjoy the beginning of summer (weather)!
