SMP scores big in state competition

The Six Mile Post received the first place award for overall General Excellence for newspapers produced by students at colleges with fewer than 8,000 students at the Georgia College Press Association’s annual awards luncheon in Macon Feb. 11. This is the second year in a row the SMP has taken the top award, beating out colleges like Berry, Georgia College and State University, Piedmont, etc.

This award is based on two full issues sent in from spring 2016 and two from fall 2016 and is hard to win because everyone on the SMP staff has to be doing consistently excellent work.

The SMP won 17 awards in all, and Cartersville SMPer Stephanie Corona was elected vice president of the GCPA during the two-day press institute held at Mercer University.

Watch for more details in the Six Mile Post.
