SGA sponsors Blood Donor Competition through November

It’s time to BLEED for GHC!

The Student Government Association (SGA), as part of the department of Student Life’s Focus on Health Sciences & Physical Education month and in conjunction with Blood Assurance, will sponsor a friendly blood donor competition between the Floyd Campus and the Cartersville Campus throughout the month of November.

The SGA is urging students, faculty and staff to visit the Blood Assurance Donation Centers in Rome and Cartersville to donate blood. Simply visit the Donation Center, identify yourself as being from Georgia Highlands College, and sign on the GHC donor sheet. Students may also list what student organization of which they are a member in order to get credit for their campus club.

The competition will be on two levels – first just between the Floyd Campus and the Cartersville Campus for overall bragging rights; but secondly, between all of the registered student organizations at GHC! The student organization with the most donors will win a free pizza party for their next club meeting!

The Blood Assurance Donation Center in Cartersville is located at 921 Joe Frank Harris Pkwy, across from Cartersville Medical Center, behind Dairy Queen and beside Goodwill. They are open Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6pm, and every 2nd Saturday of the month, 9am-1pm.

The Blood Assurance Donation Center in Rome is located at 166 Shorter Ave., in the Midtown Crossing Shopping Center, behind Chick-fil-A and in-between Hobby Lobby and Longhorn. They are open Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6pm, and Saturdays 9am-1pm.

If GHC has at least 100 combined donors sign-in during the month of November, Blood Assurance will produce “I bleed for GHC” t-shirts that will be made available for future on-campus blood drives in the Spring semester!

SGA encourages all students, faculty, and staff to take a few minutes from their day, visit the Blood Assurance donation center nearest them, and get involved in this bloody good competition between campuses! Be sure to eat a good meal beforehand, drink plenty of water, and be relatively healthy and feeling well before you try to donate. All donors will receive a donation t-shirt, snacks, and a good feeling of helping others!
