Have you been pwned?

In hacker slang, someone has been ‘pwned’ if a hacker has violated that person’s digital security by exposing his/her login and personal information. Major account breaches are occurring with increasing frequency and information about hundreds of millions of people is being traded and sold on the Internet.

You can find out if you’ve been pwned with a free monitoring service called Have I Been Pwned? (HIBP). All you need to do is enter your (personal) email address at https://haveibeenpwned.com and verify that it belongs to you with a confirmation message. HIBP will then tell you if that address has been involved in a breach and how much personal data was compromised. Change your password on any breached accounts and never reuse passwords. You can sign up for free monitoring for future incidents on HIBP, too!
