Pi Day Festival

All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend a Pi Day Festival hosted by the Math and Science Division. The event will be held in the Cartersville Student Center on Monday, March 14th from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm in Room 102 A and B. Here is a list of the fun Pi Day activities we will be hosting

1. SPHERO MAZE CONTEST
Using the sphero robots, contestants will compete against the clock to see who can get through the maze the fastest. Any participant who completes the maze can enter to win a prize.

2. BUFFON’S NEEDLE CONTEST
Using frozen hot dogs, we will throw them over a lined space and use the results to calculate pi. Any participant who correctly calculates pi can enter to win a prize.

3. PI RECITATION CONTEST
Contestants will compete to recite the digits of Pi. Any person who recites up to 25 digits will be entered to win a prize.

4. PIE EATING CONTEST
Contestants will compete to see who can eat five moon pies fastest. A special prize will be given to the contestant with the best time. Contests will occur every 15 minutes. All participants will be entered to win a prize.

BEST OF ALL: Come cheer on President Don Green and Dr. Greg Ford as they go head to head in eating chocolate creme pies…without utensils!!!

5. PIE WALK
Come play musical chairs to win a scrumptious pie donated by the faculty and staff from the Math and Science department.

6. PI BRACELETS
Everyone is welcome to make a bracelet using specific colored beads to represent the various numbers in pi.

7. ALBERT EINSTEIN BIRTHDAY
Come meet “Albert Einstein” and help celebrate his birthday with a free slice of Pi cake.

8. PI INTERNET TRIVIA CONTEST
Using the internet and any other available resources, participants will be challenged to correctly answer trivia questions related to Pi. Any participant who can correctly answer all ten of the trivia questions can enter to win a prize.

9. PI HULA HOOP CONTEST
Contestants can come show off their hula hoops skills. Participants who keep the hula hoop going for 5 complete circles will be entered to win a prize.

10. PI DARTS CONTEST
Contestants will throw Frisbees into trash cans. Ring the trash can two out of three throws to be entered to win a prize.

11. PIN THE RADIUS ON THE CIRCLE CONTEST
Contestants will be blindfolded and challenged to place thumb tacks on the Pi bulls eye. Any participant who hits the bullseye can enter to win a prize.

12. MONO-PI-LY
Contestants will compete in a mathematical game that reviews their knowledge of vocabulary involving circles, area, and circumference calculations.

13. MY PI DAY PRINTS
Type your birthday into the computer and find where your birthday is located among the digits of Pi. Print your Pi birthday for a cool visual display or print on the provided iron-on paper to make a personalized My Pi Day t-shirt.

14. LIFE OF PI MOVIE SCREENING
Enjoy the award winning movie Life of Pi. The movie revolves around the survival story of an Indian man named Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel.

15. FREE PIZZA PIE
Come celebrate Pi Day with a free slice of pizza courtesy of the Office of Student Life!
