Chargers fall to Northwest Florida State

The Chargers run to the NJCAA National Basketball Championship game ended tonight with a dramatic 105-103 loss #2 Northwest Florida State College.

Northwest Florida got out to a 11-2 run to start the game, but the Chargers fought back to keep the game close in the back and fourth affair. The Chargers cut the lead by Northwest Florida to 2 , 36-34 at the half. An ankle injury to reserve point guard Paris Ballinger put him out of the game at half time, this would prove to be huge down the stretch for the Chargers. But like in all the games in the Chargers magical run , the team picked each other up and held as much as a 13 point lead mid way through the second half. However back to back three’s and some critical turnovers down the stretch put Northwest Florida back in the game eventually tying the game with 13 seconds left in regulation. The Chargers had one last shot in regulation but Ta”Quan Givens shot fell short and it was on to overtime.

With Donovan Harris and Montrel Goldston out of the game with 5 fouls and Ballinger’s injury took its toll. The game was tied at 103 with 1.2 seconds left in the first overtime. Northwest inbounded the ball with a long pass and the Chargers fouled and Northwest sank both free throws to seal the 105-103 win.

The Chargers were led by Terrance Thompson with another outstanding night with 23 points and 10 rebounds, Donovan Harris with 22 points and 12 rebounds, Ty Toney with 18, Montrel Goldston with 17 , and Doniel Dean with 14.

The Chargers return to action tomorrow in the consolation game versus Hill College from Hillsboro Texas. Tip off is 6:00pm eastern time.
