Charger Softball spilt doubleheader

Georgia Highlands softball split a doubleheader in a tournament in Chattanooga Friday. The Chargers took down #4 ranked and host Chattanooga State Community College 11-8 in the morning before dropping the afternoon game to Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) 8-2. The Chargers fall to 5-1 on the year.

In game one the Chargers put six runs on the board in the first inning, adding 4 more in the 3rd and 1 in the 7th. Kayleigh Medlin homered, her third of the year and adding to her conference-leading tally, and Lindsay Miles also went yard and led the team with 3 RBIs. Former Cass High standout Courtney Bailey and Brandi Hughes split the pitching duties, each allowing 4 earned runs and 6 hits apiece.

In the second game it was the Chargers’ opponent who jumped off to a quick start as SMC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st. The Chargers tied it after Sierra Cagle homered and Lindsay Miles offered her 4th RBI of the day. All four GHC pitchers threw in the game, and gave up 8 earned runs between the four of them.

The Chargers are back in action in another out-of-state tournament next weekend, as they head to the Arctic Blast in Decatur, Ala for four games.
