Lady Chargers stun nationally ranked Darton State

Lady Chargers stun #25 Nationally ranked Darton State: Darton State College came into tonight’s game at Georgia Highlands College ranked #25 in the NJCAA National poll, 19-3 on the season and in first place in the GCAA Conference. GHC was playing with a short squad with two starters out with injuries but with a stifling defense and the hot hand of Tashara Jones 24 points and 8 rebounds the Lady Chargers downed the Lady Cavaliers of Darton State 69-65.
Darton cut the lead to 2 with 1:33 to play and the ball but VaQueshia’s Hall and Michaela Suttles big rebounds down the stretch secured the win.
“We overcame a lot tonight with two starters out and only 7 players available. We survived foul trouble and a 13-29 night at the free throw line. Everyone stepped up and it was a great team win.” said GHC head coach Brandan Harrell.
Also stepping up big for GHC was Rafeegah Fataar with 17 points, 9 rebounds, Deana Blankinship had a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Chargers held Darton’s talented sophomore guard Shane Armbrister , who is averaging 27 points a game to 13.
The win puts GHC record at 11 – 12 on the season and 8-3 in GCAA Conference play.
The Lady Chargers are on the road Saturday for another GCAA conference game with South Georgia Tech.
