Jessica Osborne has accepted the position of Division Chair for Library Services at Georgia Highlands College (GHC). She began her new role in September.
Osborne started at GHC in 2019 as the Cartersville Campus Librarian. She will be rejoining GHC after a brief time as the Assistant Director for Collection Development at the Henry County Library system.
In her role, she is responsible for the day-to-day management of the libraries and learning commons, seeing to the needs of stakeholders and students, and supporting staff and faculty in developing professional and institutional goals that align with the needs of the college,
“I believe our libraries play an essential role in helping our students be successful,” Osborne said. “As the library evaluates our mission, vision and departmental goals, I want to make sure we are forward looking, engaged, and provide innovative services. ”
For example, GHC Libraries and Learning Commons have had many successful collaborations within the college community and within the greater community over the last several years. Osborne aims to maintain and further develop those relationships.
“We are currently working with the Bartow County Public Library in the hopes of securing the Prime-Time Mini-Grant again,” Osborne said. “This will allow us to host families in an effort to strengthen their literacy skills and teach them about the college’s many opportunities for continued education.”
In addition, Osborne said the library has begun a relationship with Woodland High School that is poised to grow and has plans for this semester at GHC.
“We have many of our popular programs planned this fall such as Charging into Finals and Making the Most of Your Semester with a Midterm Reboot, along with great new workshops and collaborations,” Osborne said.
