Microsoft 365 – Automatic Student Group Expiration Settings

Microsoft Groups allows users to create their own groups in order to collaborate with a shared mailbox and calendar, a SharePoint site, a Microsoft Planner, and/or Microsoft Teams. However, GHC has no established process to review and remove student-created groups once students graduate, transfer, or otherwise leave GHC.

Therefore, we have updated our settings for Microsoft 365 to automatically expire student-created groups after 180 days of inactivity. This change will help keep Microsoft 365 resources free for students who need them and ensure that unused groups no longer appear in the student email directory.

Student group owners will receive multiple email notifications from Microsoft before their groups expire with instructions on how to keep them active.
