Georgia Highlands College will expand its League Sports opportunities this Spring with the addition of beach volleyball. GHC will become one of only six colleges in Georgia to sponsor beach volleyball, and the only NJCAA school in the state to do so.
Twelve of the sixteen players from the Fall indoor squad are returning in the Spring to play beach volleyball. The team will practice at LakePoint’s beach courts, and are set to participate in tournaments at Truett McConnell University, Huntingdon College and Berry College, as well as home-and-home dual matches against Wesleyan College.
Beach volleyball at the collegiate level functions differently than indoor does, and that of beach volleyball at the professional level. Schools will split their team into pairs and rank their pairs 1-5. The ranked pairs will then play each other in sets similar to indoor- #1’s play, #2’s play, etc. The wins are then tallied, similar to how tennis is done.
The Chargers’ first tournament is February 7-8 at Truett McConnell University.
