GHC Honors Program – New Policies Approved

The GHC Honors Program is an academic program providing new challenges and new rewards for motivated students. The Honors Program creates a pathway for students to earn special honors designations on official transcripts, among other benefits.

As of May 5, 2022, we are proud to announce that we have completed an overhaul of our governing policies and procedures.

We began with a policy review as part of the college-wide efforts instigated by the Policy and Procedures Task Force. Our initial review showed that the legacy document governing the Program was out of sync with the operation of the Program for at least the last five years. The legacy documents predated the GHC statutes revision and widespread policy overhauls by roughly ten years. Small revisions would not be enough. We needed to rebuild the documents completely.

We started the process with the Honors Director contacting all former Honors Directors and other college stakeholders for input. That feedback was used in development of initial drafts, which were then workshopped with the faculty members from each School serving on the Honors Advisory Council. Following the approval processes developed by the Policy and Procedures Task Force, these drafts were reviewed and approved (with requested revisions at each stage) by the process appropriate to the level of document, including the Curriculum Committee, Faculty Senate, Deans, and Cabinet.

With final approvals for these documents putting them into effect for Summer 2022, the Honors Program at GHC is ready to grow through the next ten years!
