Julia Alvarez is a Dominican poet, novelist and essay writer. Her writing fought against the patriarchal system that existed within Latin cultures. Alvarez encouraged Latin women that they too could become successful writers like she did. Her feminist literature has become one of the most influential themes in her writing.
