GHC volleyball defeated Trinity Baptist College last night in a home match at Cartersville. It marked the first ever victory for the Chargers (1-4) in the program’s second year of existence. It was also the program’s first ever set win.
The Chargers dropped the first set to the Eagles (0-13) 25-20 but rallied back the next sets. GHC clawed back from an early deficit in set 2 and pulled it out 26-24. Set 3 was a back-and-forth affair, but the Chargers pulled it out in the end. In set 4 GHC jumped out to an early lead and staved off a fierce comeback attempt, finally notching a 25-19 victory.
Former Cartersville High standouts Vanessa Johnson and Jasmin Gomez led the team in kills and digs, respectively, and Allatoona alum Lula Tolsma and Alissa Robinson also contributed in the kill count. Another Allatoona product, Josie Tolsma, led the team in aces, while Cass High graduate Sheridan Johnson added a couple more.
The Chargers return to action Saturday at Gordon State before taking a week off to reset on academics. Match is set to begin at 3pm.
