Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, the decades-old web browser that comes preinstalled on Windows, will be designated as end of support on June 15th, 2022. This means the software will no longer receive support from Microsoft or be eligible for software updates and security patches. Section 5.11 of the USG IT Handbook requires GHC to ensure the following:
Networked devices must run software for which security patches are made available in a timely fashion. They must have all currently available security patches installed. End of support software should not be utilized in production.”
Therefore, the Division of Information Technology is has already started a phased rollout of Microsoft’s new web browser, Edge, to our classrooms and computer labs. Employee workstations, laptops, and other miscellaneous devices in use at GHC will also receive Microsoft Edge in the coming weeks. Instructors utilizing software or online course learning content that requires Internet Explorer should contact their support/sales representatives to ensure these systems will be available on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge by June 15th.
Internet Explorer will no longer be permissible for use on personally owned devices being used in accordance to GHC’s Bring Your Own Device Policy after June 15th and GHC’s Single Sign-On environment will no longer permit access from Internet Explorer at that time.
