The AAUP (American Association of University Professors) is a nonprofit association of faculty and other academic professionals whose mission is: “to advance academic freedom and shared governance; to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education; to promote the economic security of faculty, academic professionals, graduate students, post‐doctoral fellows, and all those engaged in teaching and research in higher education; to help the higher education community organize to make our goals a reality; and to ensure higher education’s contribution to the common good.”
Dr. Matthew Boedy, the president of the AAUP Georgia state conference, will be speaking to all interested Georgia Highlands faculty, via Zoom, at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, November 10, about the mission of the AAUP, the benefits of AAUP membership, and current national and statewide issues the AAUP is confronting. The recent Board of Regents action concerning tenure and post-tenure review is one of the topics of discussion. There will also be a question-and-answer session.
Dr. Matthew Boedy is the president of the Georgia conference of the AAUP and, also, its academic freedom committee chairman. He teaches writing at the University of North Georgia in Gainesville.
