7 ways to de-stress right now
- Get moving. Activity of all kinds can release natural brain chemicals that boost your mood.
- Try a guided meditation. Meditation is healthy for your mind and body. An app or web video makes it easy to get started.
- Cue up something funny. Laughing triggers physical changes that affect the stress response, even if you have to fake it.
- Phone a friend. You may feel like hunkering down, but social contact can be a healthy outlet for stress.
- Just say no. Taking on too much can lead to stress, anger and resentment.
- Write it down. A journal can be a surprisingly helpful therapist. Hint: Don’t think, just write.
- Busy your hands. Get out of your own head by working at a hobby you enjoy like gardening, sewing or sketching.
