DHARMA DAY–Also known as Asalha Puja, it commemorates the Buddha’s first discourse following his spiritual awakening. This year the holiday falls on July 5th.
On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass gave a speech, “The Meaning of Fourth of July for the Negro,” at an event commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence, held at Rochester’s Corinthian Hall.
