Hackers are launching new phishing campaigns disguised as Zoom or Microsoft Teams meeting invitations according to a recently released report issued by the cybersecurity firm Check Point Research. Hackers are also continuing to use COVID-19 to lure inattentive users into clicking on phishing messages for the purposes of deploying ransomware or stealing credentials. Some key facts:
- New phishing campaigns discovered impersonating the WHO and popular conferencing platforms, to steal sensitive information
- Check Point has seen 192,000 coronavirus-related cyber-attacks per week over the past three weeks, a 30% increase compared to previous weeks
- In the past three weeks, almost 20,000 new coronavirus-related domains were registered: 17% of these are malicious or suspicious
Be on alert for fake Zoom or Microsoft Teams meeting invitations! As with email file attachments, only open them if they’re both expected and from a known sender.
