PHIL 2030: INTRO TO ETHICS
Online: CRN 81172 (Area C, no prerequisite)
Doing ethics is learning how to improve your moral reasoning about contemporary issues and support your own moral beliefs (moral theory and metaethics). The course covers contemporary issues such as abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, medical ethics, business ethics, and environmental ethics. Students will have the opportunity and be encouraged to purse moral matters raised by their interests, intended pathway or career. It also surveys important moral theories (deontology, consequentialism, and virtue theory) and discusses meta-ethical questions such as ‘Is morality relative?’, ‘Are there moral truths?’, ‘Does morality matter to happiness?’
