The Lady Chargers travelled to Americus, GA to take on the Lady Jets of South Georgia Technical College this evening. The Chargers had a tough test facing them in SGTC. The Jets have won the GCAA 5 of the last 7 years and are the team to beat again this year.
The Chargers started off by quickly building a 5-point lead in the first two minutes of the game. Unfortunately, they would not hold the lead for long. Following a time-out, SGTC was able to regroup and go on a run to finish the 1st quarter with a 20-13 lead over the Chargers. The GHC Women stayed close in the 2nd quarter, but still trailed 28-37 at the half.
Coming out of the break, the Chargers tried to make a run and get back in the game. Hitting a three-pointer and a lay-up to start the half cut the lead to 4 early but then the Lady Jets went on a run that essentially sealed the game. They would outscore the Lady Chargers 29-10 the rest of the quarter to build a 66-43 lead at the end of the 3rd. The 4th quarter was much of the same as SGTC would build a 31-point lead at the midway point. The Chargers hit a few late baskets to cut that lead down but they never really threatened the Lady Jets and the Chargers fell 65-87. No individual stats were available.
The team will travel to Lawson State Community College for a 3:00PM game this Saturday and then travel to take on Albany Technical College next Wednesday the 27. They will finally return to the Corral for their Thanksgiving Classic on November 29 & 30.
