BBA Partners with Community Leader, John Lewis

Under the leadership of Dr. Denie Burks, BBA Healthcare and Logistics students are teaming up with Bartow County community leader “John Lewis” and his team this fall on an entrepreneurship project in MGMT 3010- Operations Management. The project will give students the opportunity to apply classroom learning to “real world” business.  The goal will be to repurpose the Bandy building, creating a business plan for revitalization and future operations.

John Lewis is a developer, property manager and a recipient of the Georgia Cities Foundation’s 2012 “Renaissance Award.” Lewis, who has restored more than 30 offices and buildings in downtown Cartersville, accepted an award at the Georgia Municipal Association’s Annual Convention in Savannah Georgia.

BBA students will take on the “Bandy Building”, a historical building near downtown Cartersville. Located at 100 Cook Street, the Bandy Building was built in 1941 and was once the largest chenille plant in the world, according to Lewis of John S. Lewis Property Management. Lewis and development partner Dean Lewis, father of Bartow County sole commissioner candidate Tracy Lewis and former state representative and current State Transportation Board representative Jeff Lewis, purchased the building, estimated to contain 750,000 bricks, in December 2011. The building is 47,000 square ft.

Huge thanks to Dr. Alan Nichols, Dr. Callahan, Dr. Burks, Dr. Sheffield, Professor Iacobelli, & Professor Montgomery for serving as advisors and support to our students during the fall project.

Help me congratulate our faculty and students as they demonstrate (in the community) what it means to B.B.A Take Charger!
