The Georgia Highlands College Chargers go on the road and upset #11 Chipola College 92-87 in the Panhandle Classic in Marianna, Florida. The Chargers playing in their second game in as many days, both against nationally ranked teams and losing a tough one on Friday by two points to Gulf Coast College played one of their best game sof the year to defeat the Indians of Chipola.
GHC got out to a fast start going up 28-17 midway through the first half, holding the Indians to just 2 points for over 5:00 minutes. Chipola had a run of their own cutting GHC’S lead to 3, 34-31 with 2:21 left in the first half. GHC finished the first half leading 42-35.
GHC held at least a 9 point lead throughout most of the second half, but Chipola hit back to back three pointers to cut the Chargers lead to 57-54. That was as close as the Indians would come with GHC holding on for the win. “This was a great win tonight on the road against the #11 ranked team in the Nation. The guys are improving every day, we took a big step today,” said Chargers head coach Phil Gaffney. Two Chargers put the team on their back and led the way with an outstanding performance by Shae Linton-Brown , 8/13 from the field, 3/6 coming from the 3 point line, 9/10 from the free throw line for 28 points ,and TaJuan Johnson, 10/14 from the field with 26 points. DeMarkus Addie added 15 points.
With the win the Chargers go to (5-5) on the year. The Chargers return to action on Friday at the Corral versus Roane State, tip-off 7:30pm.
