As we recap BBA, fall semester was certainly one for the archives. The semester kicked off with orientation for both Healthcare and Logistics groups. In orientation, students had an opportunity to register for classes, meet and greet faculty and staff while learning what to expect throughout the two years in the program.
A few weeks into the semester allowed for time to unwind and attend a BBA Snack & Chat, hosted by Dr. Steward and Mrs. Ledbetter. The snack and chats allowed students to come together to discuss their first few weeks into the semester over pizza, soft drinks and dessert. It also allowed each group to build stronger relationships with one another and with faculty. Feedback from each group was welcomed in an effort to keep the program agile and progressing in a positive direction.
On September 12th, BBA Logistics students were able to tour Anheuser Busch while BBA Healthcare students had the privilege of touring Floyd Medical Center on November 8th. The purpose of both tours was to expose students to the industry and the many career opportunities available. Students were also able to grasp a better understanding of the field of choice and how each department worked together to accomplish a common goal.
Also, in the month of September and November, Dr. Burks welcomed guest speaker Alan Johnson, an expert in the logistics field, to speak to the logistics class about Forecasting and Capacity Planning. Taunya Faulkner- Director for Floyd Medical, was also invited to speak to the Healthcare class about lean six sigma. It was here that students learned how Healthcare intertwines with Logistics and Supply chain.
One of the highlights of the semester was the service learning project performed by both groups in an effort to impact homelessness. During this project, students learned the importance of academic and community collaboration. Students also learned the importance of becoming an active member in their community as this can have a lasting, positive impact and allowed our students to provide a service to those who need it most.
As a grand finale to fall semester, BBA is honored to host an end of the semester Holiday Bash for BBA students, faculty and staff. We would like to extend a huge thanks to Las Palmas restaurant for allowing us to gather together for this wonderful event.
The BBA program will be accepting applications for the second year starting January 8th, 2018. In an effort to continue ongoing marketing and recruiting efforts, the BBA program has completed over 60 individual consultations since the beginning of Fall, 6 Open Houses and numerous recruiting events in the community. Ongoing recruiting efforts have sparked an even greater interest in both programs and we believe we will see continuous growth in numbers each years.
Happy Holidays from BBA!
