Behind Briana Davis 20 points, and former Armuchee standout Elizabeth Newberry‘s double – double, 12 points and 14 rebounds the Lady Chargers rolled to a 88-47 conference win over Andrew College at the Corral. The Lady Chargers won for the 5 time in 6 games. GHC is off to a great start going (5-1) on the season and (2-0) in GCAA conference play to start the year.
The story of tonight’s game was the domination on the boards with the Lady Chargers out rebounding the Lady Tigers of Andrew 59 – 32 and having a balanced scoring attack. ” My teammates set great screens, and got me the ball, once I made my first couple of shots I got my confidence up,” said sophomore Brianna Davis. “We knew going in their post players were their leading scorers, so we challenged ourselves to block out and rebound,” said sophomore Elizabeth Newberry.
The Lady Chargers led at the half 44 – 26 , GHC went on a 22-3 run mid-way through the second half to pull away for the win. GHC had 41 points off the bench to Andrew’s 21.
“It was a solid team effort, we played with a lot of energy, Brianna Davis came out and shot the ball really well.” “Elizabeth Newberry was outstanding tonight , she continues to prove over and over she can play at this level, and I could not be any happier for her, she works hard to get better every day,” said Lady Charger head coach Brandan Harrell.
The Lady Chargers will have a few days to rest up before hosting the Georgia Highlands College Thanksgiving Classic November 24, 25, and 26 at the Corral.
