The Lady Chargers took on Andrew College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XVII at Corral and fought off a determined Lady Tigers team to get the 57-53 first round win and advance the Final Four on Friday in Americus, Georgia. Andrew got off to a fast start leading 12-4 early in the first period and led the entire first half and led 27-25 at the half.
The Lady Tigers extended their lead in the third period leading by as many as 7 points. The Chargers fought back tying the game at 33 on Sydney Garnigan’s floater in lane at the 1:37 mark left in the third. GHC took their first lead of the night with 1:04 to go in the third and never trailed again to get the tournament win.
“Taylor Fraley had a tremendous impact on the game. She was really big down the stretch, we seemed to come out a little nervous, but we battled and fought through some adversity. I hope it will make us tougher down the stretch.” Said GHC Coach Brandon Harrell. Taylor Farley led all scorers with 16 points, Pam Diokpara had the double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Kateryna Khomenko had 10 points.
The Lady Chargers (18-13) advance to the NJCAA Region XVII Final Four in Americus, Georgia and take on East Georgia State on Friday at 5:30pm.
