The #2 Chargers took on a tough Gadsden State team at the Corral and pulled away late in the second half for a 84-72 win. The Chargers celebrated last year’s NJCAA Region XVII Championship with several players from last year’s team getting their Championship rings and the unveiling of the Championship banners. Gadsden State keep the game close all night behind Josh Arnold’s 18 points, the Cardinals cut the Chargers lead to 4 just before the half , Chargers lead 41-37 at the half.
The Chargers opened the second half with a 15-3 run to extend the Chargers lead to 56-40. The story of the night was the Chargers sophomore Kyvon Davenport. The Cardinals had no answer for Davenport , he had 37 points and 8 rebounds.
“Kyvon was magical tonight, he scored inside and outside, he had a complete game,” said Charger Head Coach Phil Gaffney. “We had a great crowd tonight to see our Championship banner and ring ceremony, I can’t thank our Charger family and fans enough.”
The Chargers Antonio Wade had 16 points and 4 assist, Ty Cockfield chipped in 10 points. The Chargers 4-0 on the young season. GHC travels to Wilmington , North Carolina to take on Brunswick College on Friday. Tip off 5:00pm.
