The Dropbox Hack: It’s Worse Than You Thought

You may have heard about an account breach with the cloud storage and file sharing service Dropbox that involved the disclosure of usernames and password hashes in 2012, but the full extent of that breach has not been public knowledge until this week. Over 68,000,000 account records have been discovered online and verified as authentic. Do not rely on Dropbox forcing you to update your password on their website (or through an app) as your only means of defense: reset your Dropbox password now! If you used the same email address and password anywhere else (or think you may have), reset your password on those apps or websites as well. Email accounts are especially important to safeguard since they are commonly used as a mechanism for resetting passwords to other online accounts.
