Lisa Williams, Founder and Executive Director of The Circle of Friends and the Living Water Center, will be returning to the GHC Cartersville campus on Tuesday, April 12th at 3:30 in the Cartersville Student Center. Students Without Borders will be sponsoring the reception to be held immediately after talk concludes (which should be around 4:30). Mrs. Williams will have copies of her book, Beautiful Layers, for sale and autograph.
Mrs. Williams has been PIVOTAL in the rescue and rehabilitation of countless young women (and men) from the human trafficking and sexual slavery trade, which has a heavy influence in Atlanta.
This year is especially critical as Mrs. Williams is looking for support of Senate Resolution 7, also known as “Rachel’s Law or the Safe Harbor Law” which will be voted on by the state of Georgia in November 2016. This incredibly important piece of legislation will allow the Georgia General Assembly to set additional penalties or fees in cases where a person is found guilty of severe sex crimes. These crimes include keeping a place of prostitution, pimping, pandering, trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, or sexual exploitation of children.
With the upcoming Presidential election and the push to have GHC students formally register to become voters in order to shape the political events of our state and country, this GHC event now takes on a greater meaning. Mrs. Williams’ visit to GHC will integrate well with GHC’s plan to involve students with current events and how they can get involved and make a difference. Sexual abuse is a very real-world problem that happens on college campuses, but sexual exploitation of children and young adults and human trafficking is a HUGE problem that our students need to know about and know that they can be part of the SOLUTION.
If you are a faculty member in Cartersville, please consider having your TR 3:30 class attend this event, or offer your students Extra Credit for doing so. There will be attendance sheets at the event for your students to sign.
Please join me, along with President Green, Vice President Watterson, and your GHC colleagues at this very special event.
