All,
Terse:
There is a new Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy and associated standard that has been approved by the President’s Cabinet. Your action is required.
Who does this apply to?
Any employee who attaches their personal device to a GHC network (including checking email).
What do I need to do?
1. Read policy, complete form, get division chair/department head to approve/sign the form.
2. Return signed form to ITS.
3. At a minimum, place a passcode/passphrase on your device.
4. Encrypt your device and ensure anti-malware protection if you are authorized to store confidential information on this device.
See the links below.
Verbose:
The University System of Georgia has enacted a “Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)” policy regarding the use of personal technology equipment connected to USG networks. They have mandated that we (and all USG institutions) create our own version of this BYOD policy, using their policy as a framework. Over the past several months we have been working to create this policy. It has gone through several iterations and has now been approved by the President’s Cabinet. While the effective date of the policy is March 2014, it will realistically take a few weeks for us to bring everyone into compliance.
What does this mean for you? In short, if you use a personal (non GHC-issued) device, be it a smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc., and you connect that device to any of our wired or wireless networks or check your GHC-issued email account via this device, you must read, comply with, and sign the form indicating your acceptance of the ITS Bring Your Own Device policy and associated standard. Once you have printed and signed the form, your immediate department head or division chair (not necessarily your direct supervisor or manager), must sign and approve the form and return a printed hard-copy to ITS.

*Please note that most documents are not public-facing, and as such require you to enter your GHC network credentials for access.
